KAREN JO SHAPIRO - I Must Go Down to the Beach Again

Poet Karen Jo Shapiro has had a lifelong passion for writing poetry and silly parodies.  She's put both to good use in her two clever collections of children's poetry, Because I Could Not Stop My Bike and the brand-new I Must Go Down to the Beach Again.  In both she pokes fun at the seriousness of the classic poets while honoring their enduring talents.  Sound too erudite for your brood?  Fear not!  Karen is prepared to handle audiences aged "pre-literate" to "poetic," making this an event appropriate for all ages, complete with props, poetry-activities, coloring pages, and chocolate kisses.  Chocolate kisses?  You'll have to join us to find out why...  In the meantime, read more about Karen on her website:  www.kjshapiro.com.

Nancy Schulman & Ellen Birnbaum - Practical Wisdom for Parents

Co-sponsored by the Wellesley Mother's Forum
Nancy Schulman & Ellen Birnbaum, the directors of one of the country’s most admired preschools, the 92nd Street Y Nursery School in New York City, draw on their fifty years of combined experience—as educators, admissions directors, parents, and respected leaders in early education—to give parents of children between the ages of three and five the guidance they need to feel confident and empowered. In the classroom, in parent workshops, in the admissions office, and as parents themselves, Schulman and Birnbaum have devoted their lives to listening to and understanding children between the ages of three and five. Practical Wisdom for Parents is as warm and humorous as it is reassuring and wise: a marvelous resource from two experienced, knowledgeable educators.
